Trends Relating To Botox

By Ariel Mernal

The public is well aware that having botox treatments is a simple and easy solution to make the skin appear younger. Botox injections have become commonplace in recent times for those who have facial wrinkles and lines, and would like to attain a more youthful appearance. There was a time when people may have thought that botox was a trend that would disappear, but people now realize that it is not going anywhere.

There are sections in newspapers and magazines and segments on television that are dedicated to celebrities that have had botox in order to make their skin look more youthful. There are those who are thinking about the popularity of botox, and wondering why it has gotten so widely accepted.

Well, the answer is simple really. Ageing skin is a big problem, and people know that botox is inexpensive and effective. The entire procedure only takes a few minutes, is cheap and does not produce any scarring that may be associated with plastic surgery. Because of the constant coverage by media about celebrity procedures, the public is more aware about botox nowadays.

Botox for men?

There is a common misconception that botox injections are sought after by women and women alone. This is far from the truth. Women are still more likely to get botox than men, but it is becoming more widely accepted for men to receive the treatments as well. There are those in the media who have coined the term 'bro-tox'. It's even about 50/50 men and women in certain clinics that administer botox treatments.

Changing trends

Botox is becoming more popular all the time. In one year, 2010 to 2011, it went up from 5.4 million, to 5.7 million botox patients, so it went up 5% in that year alone. Other statistics say that it's 10% that it has been going up, year by year. This rising trend should come as no surprise. In the past, the general attitude toward botox treatments were negative, but as time goes on, it's no longer just the super wealthy that can afford them, and regular people are much more accepting of the procedure. As time goes by, more and more people see this as an acceptable treatment method.

There is more than this though. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Children and adults who suffer from cerebral palsy have had botox help them, as well as those who have blepharospasm and also conditions such as spastic paraparesis. There have been multiple reports of these treatments showing significant benefits for patients. Other applications include managing patients with migraine (multiple botox injections are given to the scalp) and excessive sweating.

We can all speculate with certainty that botox is only going to rise in acceptance in time. There are always new studies being done and improvements being made, and the benefits of these treatments seem to be growing in number all the time.
