Weight Loss Using Vitamins B12 and B6

By Lenai Headley

Medical experts agree that the human body requires vitamins to be as healthy as possible. Food is a source of many different types of vitamins, and even sunlight can be a source, as some vitamins are synthesized and absorbed by the skin. The B vitamins in particular are important in a number of metabolic processes that occur within our body. B6 and B12 vitamins have been thought to help contribute to weight loss recently, and these are now being considered for this purpose.

This will be discussed and considered in this article, to help people understand how these vitamins are related to weight loss.

Vitamin B12

Cobalt is one of the elements in the structure of B!2, so another name for it is cobolamine. The nervous system and brain are 2 of the more essential organs in the body that this water-soluble vitamin plays a crucial role in, as well as other systems as well. Those who do not have enough B12 in their system can suffer from anemia, as this vitamin is crucial in the formation of haemoglobin.

Vitamin B12 is available in a number of animal foods. Those who only eat vegetarian foods have a higher chance of being deficient in vitamin B12. Lethargy is a common symptom of patients who lack B12 in their diets. In such a situation, patients may be administered vitamin B12 injections which can help them recover from this tiredness and regain the normal energy levels.

Vitamin B12 as a weight-loss drug

There has been a fair bit of discussion regarding vitamin B12 being effective as a weight-loss supplement. Right now, this can not be completely verified by scientific analysis and studies. Weight loss can actually happen because of a lack of vitamin B12 for some, and B12 supplements have been known to assist patients that are trying to put on weight. Carbohydrates from foods eaten are broken down into usable sugars using vitamin B12 as one of the elements. The argument about whether this enhances weight loss is ongoing.

People need to remember that over-doing anything is not good for you, including vitamins. People are not known to have been harmed by too much B12 that was absorbed by the body from their diet, but it's possible to be harmed from improper injections of B12 supplements. Vitamins are absorbed by the body in the amounts that the body needs, and when more is taken in, the body has no use for it.

B6 Vitamin

Vitamin B6 is also called pyridoxine and like vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin. The body has many active forms of B6 within it. This is used in the critical break down of the amino acids in protein molecules, and also production of glucose in the body is benefited by vitamin B6. This boosts the breaking down of fats in the body additionally.

This vitamin is in much of people's diets naturally, as B6 can be found in meat, different nuts, vegetables and grains. A lack of B6 in the body can result in many issues, such as skin disease, or tongue and cheek inflammation, to name a couple of examples.

Vitamin B6 as a weight-loss drug

There is a lack of solid proof at this time that vitamin B6 is linked to weight loss, similar to how B12 is regarded. Upon further examination of vitamin B6, and how the body uses it in processes, we know that it stimulates the metabolism of lipids as one of the properties of this vitamin.

Having too much vitamin B6 in the body can cause it harm, as the thyroid gland can be stimulated beyond healthy levels. One could actually lose weight this way, but it is harmful so it must be avoided.

Conclusion

Vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 are essential for normal body functioning. There are no studies that conclusively say that they are linked directly to weight loss. People need to think about the best ways to be healthy and shed weight, including having sensible diet, and getting enough physical activity.
