A typical skin collagen enhancing cream that can be purchased will usually have only a slight effect, but a chemical peels can have a dramatic effect that is long lasting.

A peel does what it sounds like; new cells are encouraged to grow as the rough layers and dead skin on the surface on your face are removed. Because the re-grown skin is new it has a fresh, bright, tight appearance and fewer blemishes or wrinkles.

Chemical peels are cosmetic procedures that require no pain medication since it is not painful at any stage of the process. It is usually recommended that a course of six peels is given one or two weeks apart, to get the best results from superficial chemical peels. The more superficial the peel, the less risk is attached to it. For a few days after a skin peel, the side effects are still noticeable. In certain cases, skin can take on a slightly different colour after the process, and hyperpigmentation has been reported as well. If you have a deep peel then it may actually inhibit the skin's pigmenting ability.

In the week prior to a skin peel of any depth it's usually recommended that patients clean the skin regularly to reduce chance of infection and the use of moisturizer is recommended to promote even results and fast healing. Sunscreen is also another recommendation that physicians will usually give a patient before having a skin peel.
