Weight gain during pregnancy is a natural phenomenon. 'Baby weight' refers to the weight that has gained not only by the growing fetus and the enlarging womb but also the deposition of fat around the abdomen. It can be quite difficult for most women to shed this extra weight after they have had the baby. It can be even more difficult if the woman was overweight prior to getting pregnant.

While this is not strictly proven, it must also be borne in mind that eating a healthy, nourishing diet is sufficient to allow for slow and natural weight loss rather than a rapid drop in weight. Consuming healthy foods such as plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables are excellent at keeping hunger at bay and making sure the weight comes off gradually.

When the new mother uses exercise to lose weight, it has the added benefit of helping to reduce stress levels. It is essential that a doctor's advice on the sought before commencing any exercise program.

4. Keep breastfeeding your baby

The baby receives essential nutrients and fats from breastmilk that helps build antibodies for the newborn, and gives them the important nutrition they need. There are conflicting opinions as to whether or not breastfeeding can actually help others lose weight. Breastfeeding should be continued either way if possible, as it's very healthy for the baby.

5. Get plenty of rest

Going through pregnancy can be taxing on the body, and looking after an infant can raise stress levels even further. Studies have revealed that new mothers must get over 7 hours of sleep a night in order to lose pregnancy weight.

Conclusion

A new mother can use these simple techniques to effectively lose the weight that the pregnancy has caused for them.
